We are happy to announce our inaugural adult workshop. In coordination with the Islesford Dock Gallery Labor Day Artist Workshop, Islesford Boatworks will conduct a 5 day workshop to build a 16 foot Bevins Skiff. The workshop will be led by a master boat builder and the senior staff from IB, assisted by 2-3 skilled adult volunteers from Islesford. In addition to hands on boatbuilding, the class will attend a lecture by Ralph Stanley, a legendary local wooden boat builder, and a curator from the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport. Gourmet meals will be provided by the Islesford Dock Restaurant along with a lobster feast on the beach.
This will be a fun and relaxing time spent in a small picturesque island community. The class will colminate with a launching of the Bevins skiff and cookout on the beach. Class participants will put their names in a hat and for a drawing, the winner of which will take home the skiff!
Included in the fee will be on island housing for 5 nights along with breakfasts and dinners at the famous Islesford Dock Restaurant.
Participants will be exposed to island life as well as specific boat building and wood working skills. This class will be limited to 10 students allowing us to work with all levels of wood workers.
Work will be done in the Islesford Boatworks shop, an 800 sq.ft. facility complete with all the necessary tools. Everything is provided, however if you wish to bring your own tools feel free to do so.
Lodging will be available Thursday night.
Classes start 9:00 am Friday September 3rd and end at noon September 7th
Tuition: $1,000
