Job opportunities for summer 2021!
In direct response to issues stemming from COVID, we have developed a new program for IB. This summer we’ll be offering a one-year-only paid apprenticeship program for teens ages 13*-17. This is the first step to prepare a new group of island youth to grow from student to staff at Boatworks. Apprentices will delve deep into fundamental boatbuilding skills, general tool use, advanced shop safety, all with a focus on professional development and job responsibility.
This summer, Apprentices will focus on building a huge project, Rick Alley’s 15ft Lowell Coast Guard dory, a project started in 2019. They will learn advanced woodworking skills in training sessions and then put those new skills into action on the boat. We will also provide guidance through the intense mentorship that would be made possible in this targeted program.
Applicants must have previous experience in Boatworks. Preference will be given to recent experience.
Applicants who will be 13 in 2021 can apply for an unpaid apprenticeship position
Applicants who will be at least 14 at the time of program can apply for a paid apprenticeship position
Apprentices must be able to work the full 4 weeks of program
Apprentices will be required to work (3) 3-hour sessions a week. (two sessions in the afternoon apprenticeship program, one session in Mixed Ages Morning)
Pay is $10 an hour.
The Apprenticeship program runs from July 13th through Aug 7th
